I've been a business coach for nearly 10 years, working with start-ups, mid-range, and multi-7 figure entrepreneurs. I've been an entrepreneur for more than 20 years. Some of the author's advice is downright dangerous to someone that's brand new... and it's incomplete at best. Sumpter challenges you to "go pro" and uses examples of people who have nearly died in delivering their message to their people. This kind of "how bad do you want it?" dreck leaves new entrepreneurs practically (or literally) killing themselves to build something that may or may not be profitable.In the Internet Marketing world, there's an old adage: teach them the "what" and the "why," but not the "how" - and then sell them the "how" in your big ticket programs. Sumpter didn't even do a good job at that!
Core Calling is a clunky book at best and dangerous at worst. Poorly written, the author sprinkles in numerous references to her other online programs and directs you to join her programs in order to get more specifics that really should have been in the book. Sumpter hints at how-to ideas that she never fully explains, leaving you with more questions than you had before you started reading the book.
I'm a business coach, so you know that if I can't figure it out, a layman is going to have a pretty tough time getting real results from this book.
The title is misleading, since her plan actually outlines a 3-year plan, not a 2-year plan. While her "3-layer" approach to building a business isn't new (I know several other biz coaches who talk about building a 7-figure biz in 3 years or less), the real problem is in the shoddy information - few specifics or "how-to" steps are included - which you might think would be important in a "how-to" book! In fact, the author only offers one real suggestion for building your list - and leaves out a LOT of details that most newbies would need. She goes on to suggest "other" methods (facebook ads), but the details are scant, and she sums it up by saying "I didn't have much success with them, so do the 'reporter model' and save your money." Only problem is, she leaves you asking more questions than she answers, which, if I were new, would totally confound me, piss me off, and have me saying "oh well, at least it only cost a dollar!"
No thanks.
Oh, and forget about any "advanced" strategies. It's an 83 page book, and the self-aggrandizing statements abound. There's simply no time to share anything advanced. I was really hoping this 83 pages would be concise and packed with useful strategies for at least the beginners. Not even close.
She doesn't even do a good job of selling you on visiting her website. Her tone is very "my way or the highway" - which isn't conducive to building a "freedom lifestyle" - if I have no desire to run a marathon, and you tell me to train for a marathon (seriously, she suggests joining her "endurance" program where they do just that), then how is that doing what I want?
A lot of misleading and incomplete information, sprinkled with one or two helpful ideas that you can probably find anywhere on the internet. I gave it two stars instead of one because the graphic Sumpter includes for her 3-year plan is probably worth the $1 you pay for the book. Just don't expect the author to actually give you useful help to implement the 3-year plan beyond the 30,000-foot level. This book is pure overview, and not a very good one, in my opinion.
But hey, it only costs a dollar, right?

I loved this book it helped me so much with my new business I can't thank the author enough. She is smart, savvy, and points any business person in the right direction. Sure did help me.
I Never thought i could own my own business but using Shanda's simple clear strategies have helped me pave the way to living the life of my dreams and living my true purpose. in the book Shanda's shows you have to focus on the right things and build your business in a smart way investing in the right strategy at the right time to get you where you want to go. i highly recommend reading and implementing.
There's a huge difference between hearing something and actually listening. In this book, Shanda tells us ways to succeed and what bad habits are keeping us from breaking through. Even obvious, common sense reasons for failure make more sense when clearly outlined and that's exactly what Shanda does. I also LOVE the how she relates business as a part of your life, but not the whole thing. A lot of entrepreneurs get wrapped up in their business and lose their life, and their longevity in the process. She has a plan and it works! A great read )

Shanda Sumpter is one of the single most powerful, loving, a*s-kickers I've ever had the privilege to work with! Her tools for business building have been honed to a razor edge by her years of working with clients and strategizing in her own business. Every time I find something new from her, I'm amazed by how much I get out of it, even if I've seen it or heard it before! She's just so good at honing in on exactly what people need to hear to get their butts in gear, and get out of their stagnated rutts. If owning this book doesn't completely change your life and how you think about your business, well, then you must not have read it yet! ;-D
Shanda has taught me things about business that I didn't even know I didn't know. Thanks to her guidance and for making it possible for me to finally build the life I've always envisioned, I will never be without a coach. I don't know how I got by in the past without her. I don't know why I thought I could do all this on my own, but again, you don't know what you don't know. Her Freedom Model really works. Once you begin to think differently, a whole new world opens up and I'm able to even pass that on to my clients.
The book was a little redundant. Most of the book was a high pitch To sell a workshop but it did give some good advice and a few good resources. Thr author seemed to generally want to help people despite the high price tag of her workshops. . for me it was a reminder to get back to basics and build your list and to communicate often with your group. It was worth the read but could have been condensed to about 5 pages.
